Columbia Law School Textbook Printing & Spiral Binding Guide

Columbia Law Study Group Discount: Print More, Save More!

We offer tiered volume pricing on textbook and course reader printing. The more books you print and bind with us, the cheaper the per-book cost becomes. Gather your study group from Jerome Greene Hall and bring your files together for the best rate!

Between course packs, casebooks, and supplementary readings, Columbia Law School (CLS) students have to process thousands of pages a semester. While digital PDFs are convenient, nothing beats the tactile advantage of a physical, spiral-bound book that lays completely flat for highlighting, tabbing, and marginalia. At Ivy Print NYC, just blocks from the law school, we specialize in custom textbook printing and spiral binding specifically tailored to law students.

Spiral Binding Capacity & Splitting Large Casebooks

For legal reading, spiral (coil) binding is the gold standard because it allows the book to fold back on itself and lay perfectly flat on your desk. However, there are physical limits to how much paper a single coil can hold while keeping the pages easy to turn without tearing.

  • Maximum Binding Capacity: Our largest spiral coils max out at exactly 450 sheets of paper.
  • Double-Sided Printing: Because we print double-sided (duplex) to save weight and paper, this means a single bound volume can hold up to 900 pages of text.
  • What If Your Textbook is Larger? If your required reading exceeds 900 pages (e.g., a 1,200-page casebook), we ask that you split the PDF file exactly where you want it divided before sending it to us. We will then print and bind it into a Volume I and Volume II. Not only does this preserve the integrity of the binding, but it also saves your back from carrying a massive textbook across campus!

How Our Tiered Pricing Works

Printing thick law books can get expensive, which is why we’ve structured our pricing to benefit bulk orders. Whether you have multiple different course readers for yourself, or you and 5 classmates all need the same Civil Procedure textbook printed, we bundle the total volume.

The rule is simple: The more books you get printed and bound at once, the cheaper the overall rate per book. We highly recommend pooling your print jobs with your 1L section or study group at the start of the semester to lock in the lowest price.

How to Order Your CLS Course Readers

  1. Download your PDFs: Make sure your file is a flattened, complete PDF. If you have multiple loose PDFs for one class, you can combine them yourself or ask us to merge them for you.
  2. Check your page count: Note the total page count. If it's over 900 pages (450 sheets double-sided), please split the PDF into two separate files exactly where you want the break to occur (e.g., at Chapter 10 or naturally down the middle) before submitting your order.
  3. Order, Email, or Walk In: You can order directly on our website, send your perfectly prepped files to [email protected], or walk down Broadway with a flash drive. We offer fast turnarounds so you don't miss a beat in class.
